Description
Turkish knots are used more than anything else in the weaving of Turkmen handwoven carpets. Investigations show that a group of Turkmen tribes who immigrated to Iran after the Russian revolution, in ancient times and perhaps even today, weave the best Turkmen carpets using the Turkish knot and in two tufts.
Since the weather conditions in the mountainous areas of this region are a bit cold, the carpets in this region have long been completely fleshy and fluffy. Because with this, the carpet will have more heating.
Shirazeh carpet in Turkmen carpet is of Persian type and most of the carpets are coarsely woven with a count between 40 and 50. On the other hand, unlike other parts of Iran, where two types of thin and thick weft are used for carpets, only thin weft is used in Turkmen handwoven carpets, which makes the carpets of this region more loose and soft.
Also, additional parts are woven at the top and bottom of Turkmen carpets, which are after the edge of the carpet. These parts are called carpet shoulder, which is not common in the main centers of carpet weaving in Iran.
Turkmen handwoven carpet color
The color of Turkmen handwoven carpet is one of the special features of this carpet. As we mentioned in the previous sections, the use of red color in Turkmen carpets is very important. But this is not the whole story; In the past, in addition to red color (lacquer), the use of white, black and dark green colors was also very common.
One of the issues that increases the value of hand-woven carpets is the use of natural and vegetable colors, which, in addition to increasing the quality of the carpet, prevents family members from becoming allergic. This issue can be very valuable especially for families with small children.
Over time, in order to increase the color variety of Turkmen carpets, in addition to the 4 colors that we mentioned, other colors were added over time, the most important of which and how they are made are the following:
Brown: walnut skin + ranas root
Cinnamon: walnut skin + runas + pomegranate skin
Peas: white alum + pomegranate peel
Tusi or Moshi: black alum + pomegranate peel
Black: walnut skin + indigo
Olive: pomegranate skin + hair leaf + walnut skin
Of course, it is necessary to point out that three types of lacquer colors are used in Turkmen carpets; Dark lacquer, yellowish lacquer, and normal lacquer, and in general, the main natural colors in the carpets of this region are limited to these 12 colors.
